Did you know the beauty industry produces over 120 billion units of plastic packaging waste each year?¹ While one tube of lipstick getting tossed in the garbage may not seem like a lot of waste, think about how many lipsticks Shoppers Drug Mart sells each year – it all adds up.

It’s clear that there is a lot of work to do to reduce the amount of plastic waste being created, and we’re tackling this issue head-on with the launch of “More Planet Love” by Quo BeautyTM. This collection features over 40 new products designed to reduce the amount of plastic waste going to landfills.

“Tackling the issue of plastic waste in the beauty industry is not an easy task,” shares Kelly Jessop, SVP, Merchandising, Shoppers Drug Mart. “But our team is up to the challenge because it’s important to the planet, our customers, and our company. These new products are a step in the right direction towards a more sustainable world.”

As we work to ensure all control brand packaging is recyclable or reusable by 2025, a key strategy in our waste-reduction journey involves employing mono-material packaging, which simplifies the recycling process for our customers. Unlike multi-component plastics that are nearly impossible to recycle, our mono-material packaging stands out as an eco-conscious solution.

The new “More Planet Love” collection includes Powder Matte Lipsticks, crafted from mono-material for hassle-free recycling, Shimmer Lip Oils and Natural Swift Strokes Liquid Liner, both incorporating recycled plastic in its packaging, as well as new cosmetic brushes, packaged with sustainably sourced paper/plastic-free packaging.

The entire line of products is also vegan, cruelty-free, and PETA-certified. All these design components are helping advance Quo Beauty on its journey to creating a more sustainable planet.

Across the Enterprise, we aim to have all control-brand packaging meet the Golden Design Rules(Open in a new tab) by 2025. These rules outline what materials should be used to maximize recyclability – exactly what Quo Beauty’s new products are doing.
