1.0 General information about this notice
This Consumer Health Privacy Notice applies when health-related consumer information is collected, used, or disclosed outside the healthcare and related professional services you receive from a regulated health professional providing healthcare services through or on behalf of Loblaw or Shoppers Drug Mart. In this Notice, we refer to this information as “consumer health data.” In this Notice, we refer to pharmacists, nurses, physicians, physiotherapists, and other regulated health professionals as “healthcare providers”. Consumer health data is the information we collect, use or disclose to provide you with health and wellness services. This includes information you share through the Digital Health Platform, a health and wellness platform, accessible to eligible users through PC Health, Shoppers Drug Mart, or Pharmaprix mobile applications or online provided by Loblaw Companies Limited and certain of its subsidiaries in Canada (“Loblaw” “Shoppers Drug Mart”, “we”, “us” or “our”). Consumer health data also includes information your healthcare provider shares with us, with your authorization and consent, for the purpose of providing you with enhanced health and wellness services through the Digital Health Platform. This notice does not apply to information collected by a healthcare provider in relation to the healthcare and related professional services they provide you. 2.0 What types of consumer health data is collected?
Consumer health data that we may collect includes information about your health and wellness, fitness, lifestyle, or health-related interests. This consumer health data may be collected through a variety of channels, including digital platforms, retail interactions, wellness programs, digital content interactions, connected-devices, activity-tracking, surveys, and optional health and wellness features for purposes such as actionable insights and personalize your experience on the Digital Health Platform. The consumer health data we collect depends on the features and services you choose to use and the permissions and consents you provide.
3.0 How we collect, use and disclose your consumer health data
We may collect, use, and disclose your consumer health data to provide and support health and wellness features and services, which may include:
Participating in health and wellness programs, information, personalized insights, communications and recommendations that may be relevant to you;
Providing and supporting features and services available through the Digital Health Platform:
Using and interacting with chatbots, including PC Chat;
Tracking and monitoring your health activities and related wellness information;
Connecting with third-party applications or connected devices (e.g., wearable devices); and
Managing your Digital Health Platform profile, settings, permissions, and preferences.
When you use the Digital Health Platform to schedule and manage your appointment bookings and requests, the information you provide is shared with your healthcare provider so that they can provide you with the requested service and maintain an accurate and up-to-date patient record for you. Once this information is received by the healthcare provider in connection with providing healthcare or related professional services, it is handled as described in the Healthcare Services Privacy Notice. With your consent, we may also collect and use your consumer health data from third-party applications you choose to connect with, your interactions with our pharmacy services, and in-store health and wellness tools. Shoppers uses this information to build a comprehensive view of your wellness, provide actionable insights and personalize your experience on the Digital Health Platform. We may also de-identify or aggregate your consumer health data so that it cannot reasonably be associated with you, and use that information for research and analytics purposes, including to understand and improve your health and wellness services and to support related research projects and publications. Only with your consent, may we share your identifiable consumer health data with third parties, including academic or research institutions for these purposes. 4.0 PC Chat
PC Chat is an artificial intelligence powered chatbot offered through PC Health and Shoppers Drug Mart, that provides you with personalized health and wellness information. When you use PC Chat, it may collect information you provide, such as your preferences, inquiries, and other details relevant to your chatbot interactions. PC Chat will use this information, together with trusted information sources, to generate responses. With your express consent and authorization, you can choose to connect your digital pharmacy account to deliver more personalized and relevant responses. 5.0 Your privacy choices
You can manage your consumer health data and permissions directly in your Digital Health Platform profile settings. This includes the ability to opt-out of receiving health and wellness services at any time. Information on how to manage your privacy choices (relating to non-healthcare services) is available in the section “How Do I Change My Privacy Choices?” of the Loblaw Privacy Policy.
