PC Express delivery smart lockers

Imagine a busy day at one of our stores. Customers are shopping, team members are stocking shelves, and PC ExpressTM delivery drivers are waiting to pick up online orders. In the past, this could create delays. A driver might have to wait for an order to be brought out, which slowed down deliveries and created extra traffic in our pickup areas
Now, there’s a faster, more efficient way to get groceries to our customers: PC Express Smart Lockers.
These lockers provide a self-serve pickup experience for drivers. Our team members can now prepare and place orders into the lockers in advance. When a driver arrives, they can go straight to the locker, scan a code, and can pick up orders quickly, often within seconds. No waiting required.
The best part? These lockers are designed to help keep food fresh. They have separate sections for frozen, chilled, and room-temperature items. This means a customer’s ice cream stays frozen and their produce stays crisp from the moment it leaves our store to the moment it arrives at their door.
The results from our first pilot stores have been strong. Driver wait times have been cut nearly in half, and most orders are ready for pickup on arrival. This makes the delivery process faster and more reliable for our driver partners.
Our store teams are feeling the benefits, too. With drivers using the self-serve lockers, there’s less congestion in our pickup zones. Colleagues can load the lockers from the back, so they don’t have to interrupt shoppers. This streamlined workflow helps tams work more efficiently and focus on helping customers in the store.
This is just the beginning. Starting April 29, we have expanded the pilot to two Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Joe Fresh® locations in Real Canadian Superstore®, Joe Fresh BOPIS (Buy Online Pickup In Store) customers will be able to collect their online order from self-serve Smart Lockers without needing assistance from a team member at the store. This experience will streamline and speed up the pick-up process for Joe Fresh BOPIS orders!
We will continue to pilot them for the balance of the year, and based on valuable feedback from our customers and colleagues, we hope to grow the program even further. By supporting our store teams and delivery partners with better tools, we are creating a faster, simpler, and more enjoyable shopping experience for everyone.
