Students from University of Toronto – Mississauga Recognized by PC Financial for Building Resilience in Underserved Communities

(MONTREAL, QC) May 1, 2023 - A team of Enactus Students from University of Toronto - Mississauga created a platform to help improve financial literacy among Canada’s underbanked and unbanked population.

Enactus University of Toronto – Mississauga was awarded the 2023 PC Financial Resilience Project Accelerator Best Project title at the Enactus Canada National Exposition Opening Ceremony today for their Pluto e-Learning Platform.

Their platform empowers users to build skills in budgeting, expenses, and saving tracking and planning tools, with features such as short videos explaining key financial terms, and quizzes to assess users' understanding. This year alone, 52 individuals received financial education through this platform.

“Congratulations to the Enactus University of Toronto - Mississauga team on their well-deserved success. Our ongoing partnership with Enactus is vital in the effort to promote financial literacy and represents an exciting opportunity to combine the strengths of entrepreneurial students to create a positive impact for Canadians,” said Ian Hanning, SVP, Finance & CFO, PC Financial. “By working together to promote social equity, we can create a future that is brighter, fairer, and more inclusive for all.”

The PC Financial Resilience Project Accelerator is designed to empower Enactus teams with the resources needed to identify, create, and deliver projects that use financial education to build resilience in underserved populations (including, but not limited to, visible minorities, indigenous peoples, people with disabilities and/or women).

The Enactus Canada National Exposition is an annual three-day event that unites hundreds of delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals, and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition, and education.
