Family-owned grocer rebuilds quickly after devastating fire, bringing back staff and introducing enhanced shopping experience.

Brampton, ON May 15, 2026 – Walker’s Your Independent Grocer will reopen its doors on May 15 at 8 a.m., following an eight month rebuild after a fire severely damaged the Salisbury store. Located at 3070 Main Street, the newly redesigned location introduces expanded services and a refreshed shopping experience for the community.”

“We rebuilt this store in a record breaking eight months and are so excited to welcome the community back,” says Store Owner James Walker. “This newly renovated store now offers more assortment, value, and convenience for our customers.”

The renovated store features several new and improved offerings, including:

• More grab-and-go options: A wide selection of fresh, ready-to-eat meals, including fried chicken, high-protein power bowls, Romanaccia sandwiches and more.

• Fresh bakery: Daily baked breads, cookies, and a variety of sweet treats including a wide variety of specialty cakes.

• Larger deli assortment: The expanded deli now features 16 feet of different varieties of meats, cheeses, and dips to choose from.

• Local vendor program: A dedicated space highlighting products from local suppliers such as Kookie Kutter and Beaman’s Maple Syrup.

• Enhanced convenience and value: Access to produce deals through the Flashfood app and online grocery ordering via PC Express for pickup.

• Full liquor assortment: A comprehensive selection of beverages for every occasion.

Store Owners James and Willow Walker took ownership of Your Independent Grocer in September 2025. After the fire, they led an accelerated rebuild, bringing the store back to life in just eight months.

James Walker brings more than 30 years of grocery retail experience, having started his career in the produce department at Real Atlantic Superstore and working across multiple departments until he took on the Store Manager position. Willow Walker contributes operational expertise from her experience in the food industry and as a small business owner.

"We are thrilled to be working together and rebuilding relationships with both the community and our dedicated employees," added Willow Walker. "We are especially proud that almost all of our previous team members are returning, and we are all eager to welcome everyone back."

Walker’s YIG is committed to once again being a pillar in the community, supporting local food banks, schools, and community initiatives. To mark the grand reopening, Walker’s YIG is donating $1,000 to the Salisbury Helping Hands Food Bank.

Walker’s YIG, located at 3070 Main Street, Salisbury, NB, will be open Monday to Saturday from 8 AM to 9 PM and on Sunday from 10 AM to 7 PM. The store employs approximately 45 dedicated team members.
